The James Beard House
The Greenwich Village townhouse was the home of James Beard, the cook and writer who did more than anyone to define American cooking. The James Beard Foundation now invites chefs from around the country to cook dinners there.
The night
The foundation's blog wrote the dinner up as a celebration of fennel, and told how the two chefs got matching tattoos afterwards so they would never forget it. The foundation's archive keeps Michael's fennel and arugula salad on his chef page.
