Private chefs in Denver
Private chef in Denver, CO
A private chef in Denver is dinner at home in Cherry Creek or out in the foothills, with the sun going down behind the Front Range and the whole evening at your own table. Indulge cooks in Denver, Boulder and the suburbs south of the city all year, and at the mountain house up I-70 when the weekend moves west.
Cherry Creek, the Hilltop and Cherry Hills
Denver dinners are mostly at home: in Cherry Creek and Country Club, on the Hilltop and around Washington Park, and in the larger houses of Cherry Hills Village, Greenwood Village and Castle Pines. Summer is for patios and long tables in the garden, with an eye on the afternoon thunderstorms that roll off the mountains and are usually gone by dinner. Winter is for dinners inside by the fire, and for the holidays.
We cook for birthdays and anniversaries, holiday dinners, client dinners downtown and in the Tech Center, engagement dinners and small weddings at home.
Boulder and the mountain houses
Boulder dinners come with the Flatirons in view: houses on Mapleton Hill and in the foothills north and west of town. For weekends further up, Michael and the team travel to the mountain house in Vail, Beaver Creek or Breckenridge, with the shopping done in Denver before the drive so the kitchen is stocked when you arrive. In winter I-70 sets the schedule, so Dominique plans the arrival around the forecast and the Friday traffic, not the other way round.
Cooking a mile high
Denver sits at 5,280 feet, where water boils at around 202 degrees, and in the mountains it is lower still. Braises and grains take longer, baking needs adjusted recipes, and Michael plans for it from the first draft of the menu.
The best of Colorado comes in late summer: Palisade peaches and Olathe sweet corn from the Western Slope, Rocky Ford melons, and Pueblo green chiles roasted at the end of the season, with Colorado lamb and trout all year. A dinner in August can be built almost entirely from the state.
How a Denver booking works
Send the date, the address and the number of guests, and if the dinner is in the mountains, the house and how long you will be there. Michael writes the menu, refines it with you, and plans the shopping and the drive. In the city the team arrives about two hours before guests; for a mountain weekend, the chef cooks every meal from Friday dinner to Sunday brunch. Shopping, cooking, service and cleanup are handled. Questions
Private chefs in Denver, CO: questions
Can you cook for a weekend at our mountain house in Vail or Breckenridge?
Yes. Michael and the team travel up with the shopping done, cook every meal of the weekend and leave the kitchen clean on the way out. Send the address, the dates and how many will be in the house; in winter we plan the drive around I-70 and the forecast.
Does cooking at altitude in Denver change the menu?
Only in the method. At 5,280 feet water boils at around 202 degrees, so grains, pasta and braises take longer and baking needs adjusted recipes. In the mountain towns, at 8,000 feet and above, the changes are larger. Michael plans for both, so the menu you approve is the one that reaches the table.
Which areas around Denver do you serve?
Cherry Creek, Country Club, the Hilltop, Washington Park, Highlands and the rest of Denver; Cherry Hills Village, Greenwood Village, Castle Pines and Castle Rock to the south; Boulder and the foothills to the west; and the mountain towns along I-70 by arrangement. Send the address with your inquiry.
What is in season in Colorado for a summer dinner party?
July to September is the best of the year: Palisade peaches, Olathe sweet corn, Rocky Ford melons, tomatoes from the Front Range farms, and Pueblo green chiles at the end of summer, with Colorado lamb and trout all year. Michael builds summer menus around them, served on the patio when the weather allows.
